Support Thay’s Vision
Your gift will do more than build a school. It will plant seeds of peace and enable the first students and teachers to live and learn in an environment infused with mindfulness and community.
Your generosity will echo far beyond a single campus. It will shape a movement — one that embodies Thich Nhat Hanh’s greatest teaching: “Peace in oneself, peace in the world.”
DonateThe Thich Nhat Hanh School of Interbeing is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of curious, compassionate community builders.
VISION

Our collective future depends on a new generation of curious, compassionate, community builders who understand their interconnectedness and know how to cultivate peace and joy.
Guided by the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, the School of Interbeing offers an unprecedented educational space for children to develop a deep relationship with themselves, their communities, and the Earth.

A term coined by Thich Nhat Hanh, Interbeing is the awareness that all people, species, and things are deeply interconnected. When we understand this, we see that our peace and happiness is inseparable from the peace and happiness of the world.

THICH NHAT HANH

Children learn foundational academics in service of applied, integrative learning experiences that cultivate wellbeing and build community.

Set in verdant foothills near San Diego, California, our beautiful campus is at the base of and in community with the Deer Park Monastery.

Led by a team of highly experienced educators in collaboration with monastics, supported by an international Plum Village community.
MISSION
The School of Interbeing is a step towards Thich Nhat Hanh’s vision for a more peaceful world. Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese Zen Master and peace activist who brought mindfulness to millions. He cataylzed a movement for mindfulness in education and worked to support the wellbeing of children, families, teachers, and schools.

Children engage in joyful, boisterous play-based learning and contemplative practices in an environment where they feel free to be themselves and are viewed as sacred, whole, and already enough - just as they are.
COMMUNITY
Academic and contemplative learning are inseparable and are in service of building community and cultivating peace. The school is situated within a model of village living at Deer Park Monastery. Students will learn on the regenerative farm, with elders, on the mountain, and in community.
